Is an EU trademark registration valid outside the EU?

No. An EU trademark provides protection exclusively within the 27 EU member states. It is not valid in any country outside the EU, including the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and all non-EU markets.

To obtain protection in countries outside the EU, separate trademark applications must be filed in each target jurisdiction. An EU trademark registration can be used as the basis for an international application through the Madrid System, which can then designate additional countries.
